BHCC – Pitta Cutting Reception

At the British Embassy Residence, the established annual joint cake-cutting reception of the British Embassy in Athens and the Hellenic-British Chamber of Commerce was held, on Wednesday 8th February 2023.

The British Ambassador in Greece, Matthew Lodge, emphasized among other things, in his opening speech: “The significant increase in bilateral trade in 2022 reflects the dynamics of the Greek economy and its recovery after the pandemic. It is, at the same time, indicative of the strong ties between our two countries but also of the love that the British have for Greece – just think of the record number of British tourists who chose Greece for their holidays last summer. In partnership with the Hellenic British Chamber and all its members, we will continue to build on these foundations in the year ahead to further strengthen our trade and investment links and the wider UK-Greece partnership.”

Anna Kalliani, Greek President of the Hellenic-British Chamber, shared her wishes for 2023 with the participants, who pointed out the growing interest in investments from the United Kingdom, but also the significant expansion of Greek companies in several sectors, the strong resistance of exports of our country despite the volatile environment, as well as the impressive recovery of tourism from the United Kingdom which exceeded historical records. Continuing her speech, she referred to the scope for stronger cooperation between the two countries and the important assistance of the Hellenic-British Chamber in this direction.

Kenny Evangelou, the British President of the Hellenic-British Chamber, in turn welcomed the attendees and especially thanked the sponsors of the event. In his speech he mentioned that despite the geopolitical and economic challenges we continue to face, we remain modestly optimistic that the Greek economy will continue its growth path in 2023 and beyond. He also added that the Chamber plans to organize or support a series of events, as it does every year, to provide its members with useful information on investment opportunities and trade partnerships in a wide range of sectors (e.g. energy, shipping, innovation and technology, real estate, tourism and hospitality, food and drink) in both Greece and the UK.

Their messages on the prospects and challenges of the market, as well as wishes for the new year, were addressed from the British Embassy Residence, by high-ranking executives of LAMDA DEVELOPMENT, PETROS PETROPOULOS SA, the official importer of JAGUAR LAND ROVER in Greece, and VIANEX, companies that participated in the annual joint event as Platinum Sponsors.

As part of the New Year’s reception, the British Ambassador and the Presidents of the Chamber proceeded with the traditional cutting of the pie, which was accompanied, for one more year, by excellent gifts kindly offered by the sponsors of the event.

What Is The First Instagram Photo Ever taken?

There is a first time for everything!

The first time we are doing something is quite exciting!

Instagram, is a powerful social media tool for many businesses to promote their work and be heard by their clientele, and increase their potential customers, as they are able to be seen by many users.
Also, Instagram is an effective communication means for individuals, who can upload posts, photos, videos, and express their ideas and concepts so as to be heard and other people act upon them.

Being in Instagram means you are able to listen, understand, and take action on what other people say.
Instagram is also a means of information on all the latest trends on many sectors, like Architecture, Real Estate, Technology, Fashion, etc. shown by photos and videos.
The Instagram app, allows users to upload media that can be edited with filters and organized by hashtags and geographical tagging.

Which was the first image of Instagram uploaded ever?

Instagram CEO and co-founder Kevin Systrom took a picture of a dog in Mexico near a taco stand, with a guest appearance by his girlfriend’s foot. That was the first picture ever launched on Instagram.

“Test” was the caption of Kevin Systrom’s photograph of a stray dog sitting near a taco stand in Mexico, the first image ever shared on Instagram. He uploaded it a few months before his idea was launched to the public on October 6 2010.

The first Instagram post ever was by Kevin Systrom. He posted this photo on 16th July 2010.

“Had I known it was going to be the first photo on Instagram I would have tried a bit harder,” Mr Systrom later told The Daily Telegraph.

In 2016, Systrom was included on the list of America’s Richest Entrepreneurs under 40. As of September 2017, Instagram became a fast-growing app, with 800 million monthly users.

On 24th September 2018, he resigned as the CEO of Instagram. Kevin was born on 30th December 1983 in Holliston, Massachusetts.

Instagram CEO and co-founder Kevin Systrom took a picture of a dog in Mexico near a taco stand, with a guest appearance by his girlfriend’s foot.

Publishing photos and enabling sharing as well as the best timing were the two main factors for the new innovative idea, which, is globally known as “Instagram”.

Instagram was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Within two years more than 50m users had joined the app and in 2012 it was bought by Facebook for $1bn (£760m), now known as Meta Platforms. At that time, mobile photography was becoming increasingly popular, and it may even have benefited from the relatively low quality of early phone cameras.
in June 2012, Mr Systrom revealed that the app had reached one billion users.

Did it come at the perfect moment, or, they took the moment and made it perfect?

At the time of the launching of that photo, mobile photography was becoming increasingly popular, and it may even have benefited from the relatively low quality of early phone cameras.

An important part of Instagram’s success has been its ability to attract celebrities like Cristiano Ronaldo (489 M Followers), Selena Gomez, (351 M Followers), Ariana Grande (335 M Followers), Kim Kardashian (332 M Followers), Beyonce, (279 M Followers).

Though Kevin and Mike continued to run Instagram after it was acquired by Facebook in 2012, later, there had been reports of tension between the pair (Systrom and Krieger), and Facebook, and the departures add to what has been a troubling year for the parent company.

It was an immediate success, gaining one million users in its first couple of months. Some experts say it arrived at the perfect moment. Within two years more than 50m users had joined the app and in 2012 it was bought by Facebook for $1bn

“Instagram came at a time when we had two things that weren’t well put together,” says Dr Bernie Hogan, who has been researching social media for more than 15 years.

“There were photo-editing apps and social sharing apps. At that time Facebook mobile wasn’t very good at all and Twitter didn’t have a way to share photos meaningfully,” he says.

“Instagram came right up in the middle between having photos and enabling sharing.”

Mr Systrom, chief executive, said they were departing to “explore our curiosity and creativity again”. He added: “We’re now ready for our next chapter. We both remain excited for the future of Instagram and Facebook” (September 2018).

Instagram started as a simple way to share good-looking, edited, photographs.
The first picture – which was an immense success, has been liked more than 93,000 times.
It was the culmination of an idea Kevin Systrom formed with Mike Krieger, whom Kevin met while studying at Stanford University. Kevin and Mike, launched Instagram as a simple way to share good-looking, edited, photographs.

“Instagram came at a time when we had two things that weren’t well put together,” says Dr Bernie Hogan, who has been researching social media for more than 15 years.

“There were photo-editing apps and social sharing apps. At that time Facebook mobile wasn’t very good at all and Twitter didn’t have a way to share photos meaningfully,” Bernie Hogan says.

Jemima Gibbons, a social media consultant in London says:
“Plenty of people were using smartphones – but the built-in cameras were rubbish, Instagram was a great way to make those bad photos look good – and to add your own personal twist on top.”
“Instagram’s done well by cleverly taking the best features from rivals while avoiding the bad,” Ms Gibbons says. “But the core product feels like it’s been relatively unchanged, which is great for users”, Jemina adds.

Mr Systrom, 34, the CEO, and Mr Krieger, 32, the chief technical officer, started the image sharing site in 2010 and continued to run the service after it was acquired by Facebook.

So what’s behind the departures?
As it seems, that tension started to grow between Mr Systrom and Mr Zuckerberg as far back as 2014 when Facebook purchased WhatsApp.

The social network spent $19bn on the chat app in 2014, and Instagram’s co-founder is said to have become concerned that he had sold out too soon.
“The irony is that Kevin built the more successful product.” “Kevin maybe didn’t have the fight in him anymore and probably didn’t agree with some of the product decisions, this is just the natural end to an era”, was commented.
In March, in the week Mr Zuckerberg apologised for the handling of a historic data breach, Facebook ended $58bn (£44bn) lower in value.
“When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

What is The First Video On You Tube?

Me at the zoo” is the first video uploaded to Youtube, on April 23, 2005, 8:31:52 p.m. PDT, by Jawed Karim, an American software engineer and later Internet Entrepreneur, while he was at the San Diego Zoo.. This video has been viewed over 242 million times, as of August 29, 2022. While Karim was working at “Paypal”, had designed many of the core components, including its real-time anti-Internet-fraud system. It was during that time that he met the fellow You Tube co-founders Steve Chen and Chad Harley.

What is the First Photo On Facebook?

Facebook, the most popular social network ever, as it is considered, has grown unbelievably over the years; acquiring other social networks like Instagram and WhatsApp. There was a long procedure of getting there, and possibly, many hidden secrets within the social network that have not be unveiled yet. Today it is owned by the American company Meta Platforms.

First Facebook photo 0

One of them has always been about what was the first photo that was published on a Facebook wall; a mystery that today has been solved and you may see it above. It depicts Mark Zuckerberg, while being a University student, working on the platform. This photo was published on the 5th of September 2004. Nowadays, 2.4 users around the world use Facebook platform and about 350 million photos are shared daily.

As you all know, 16 years ago, Mark Zuckerberg founded the social network in 2004, with the aim of being a university project that would unite students through a common platform with the possibility of sharing ideas and photographs, giving each profile its own design and personality, which would later become a “wall”.

Facebook Founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, with fellow Harvard College students and room mates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, who was the first user. The very first person who ever created an account was Arie Hasit, who joined around February 2004.I

The name “Facebook” comes from the face book directories often given to American university students. Membership was initially limited to Harvard students, gradually expanding to other North American universities and, since 2006, anyone over 13 years old. As of July 2022, Facebook claimed 2.93 billion monthly active users, and ranked third worldwide among the most visited websites as of July 2022. It was the most downloaded mobile app of the 2010s

Today the design and functions of Facebook have been renewed in all the 16 years that have passed, such as the opportunity to change to Dark mode wave new reaction of “I Care”.

Know Your Value

“I came, teacher, because I feel so insignificant that I don’t feel like doing anything. They tell me I’m worthless, that I’m not doing anything right, that I’m clumsy and stupid.
How can I improve? What can I do to make them appreciate more?’ The teacher, without looking at him, said: ‘I’m so sorry, my boy.
I can’t help you because I have to solve a problem of my own first. Then maybe…’ and after a pause he continued: ‘if you want to help me, I can quickly solve my problem and then I can help you’. ‘uh… you’re welcome, master’ the young man said hesitantly, feeling once again belittled and his needs displaced.
‘Fine’ continued the teacher. He took out a ring which he wore on his left hand and gave it to the boy, saying: ‘take the horse that is out there and run to the market.
I need to sell this ring to pay off a debt. You need to get as much money as you can for it.
And by no means accept less than a gold trinket. Go and bring the golden fleur as fast as you can.’
The young man took the ring and left. As soon as he arrived at the market he began to offer the ring to the merchants who looked at it with some interest until the young man said what he wanted for it. When the boy said ‘a golden trinket’ they all laughed.
After trying to sell the jewel to anyone he met on his way to the market – and there would surely be over 100 people – he admitted failure,
he mounted the horse and turned back. How he wishes the young man had a gold coin to give to the teacher and save him from his trouble.
Thus he too would get the teacher’s advice and help. ‘Master’ he said, ‘I’m sorry. It’s impossible for me to make it.
Maybe I could get two or three silvers, but I don’t think I can make anyone laugh at the true value of the ring.’
‘What you have said is very important, my young friend,’ replied the teacher.
We must first find out the true value of the ring.
Get back on the horse and go to the jeweler. Who else would know better? Tell him you want to sell it and ask how much he can get.
But don’t sell it to him no matter what he offers you. He came back with the ring.’ The young man mounted and rode away again.
The jeweler examined the ring by candlelight, looked at it with the lens, weighed it, and then said to the child:
‘Tell the master, my boy, that if he wants to sell it at once, I cannot give him more than fifty-eight gold florins for his ring.’
‘Fifty eight gold?’ Called the child. ‘Yes,’ replied the jeweller. The young man ran excitedly to the teacher’s house to tell him everything.
‘Sit’ the teacher told him after hearing him. You are like this ring. A precious and unique piece of jewelry.
And as such, you need to be valued by a true expert. Why in your life do you turn here and there asking everyone to appreciate your true worth?
And with these words, he again put the ring on the little finger of his left hand.”

Και σαν τέτοιο, πρέπει να σε εκτιμήσει ένας αληθινά ειδικός. Γιατί στην ζωή σου γυρίζεις εδώ κι εκεί ζητώντας να εκτιμήσει ο καθένας την πραγματική σου αξία;

The Top 10 most Earth-like exoplanets!

Are we alone in the Universe? Is there life outside our solar system?

“We can find life outside the solar system in 25 years,” researcher Sasha Quanz says.
“New instruments are currently being developed that will supercharge our search for life across the Milky Way galaxy.”

Life on Mars hasn’t been found yet, but Sasha Quanz, an astrophysicist at Switzerland’s federal technology institute ETH Zurich, believes we might be able to detect evidence of it on planets outside of the solar system within the following 25 years, as he remarked at a recent opening of the university’s new Center for the Origin and Prevalence of Life.

Astronomers believe that each of the more than 100 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy has at least one companion planet.

“That makes for an enormous number of exoplanets, many of which”, Quanz added, “are just like Earth and at the right distance from their host stars to enable conditions for life, such as the presence of liquid water.”

We haven’t found life on Mars yet, but one researcher believes we might be able to detect evidence of it on planets outside of the solar system within the next quarter of a century.

Sasha Quanz, an astrophysicist at Switzerland’s federal technology institute ETH Zurich, made those remarks at a recent opening of the university’s new Center for the Origin and Prevalence of Life.

“In 1995, my colleague [and Noble Prize laureate] Didier Queloz discovered the first planet outside our solar system,” Quanz said during the briefing. “Today, more than 5,000 exoplanets are known and we are discovering them on a daily basis.”

“To qualify as potentially life-friendly, a planet must be relatively small (and therefore rocky) and orbit in the “habitable zone” of its star, which is loosely defined as a location where water can exist in liquid form on a world’s surface. When telescope technology improves, other factors will be considered as well, such as the planet‘s atmospheric composition and how active its parent star is.”

Being Strong!

“Being STRONG!”
“The hardest walk is walking #alone. But, if you let it, it’s the walk that can make you the #strongest.”
“You never know how strong you are until being STRONG is the only choice you have.”
“The best way to be happy with someone is to learn how to be happy alone, enjoy the magic of life, especially if you want to let go of the stress weighing you down.”
“The hardest battle is between what you know in your head and what you feel in your heart.”
“It’s better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction.”

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style” – Maya Angelou

I hope that, Maya Angelou can bring some inspiration to us. She exemplifies many important qualities and teaches us that all must be practiced with courage, passion, tenacity, and of course, a sense of humor.
